Viola and Piano Recital, Old Bluecoat School, August 2nd 2015

Viola Rebekah Frost    Piano Olivia Canolle

"The two worked together in tandem to bring out all of the song's melancholy effectively. Next up Frost played Bach's unaccompanied Suite for Cello in G Major BMV 1007. With clear confident bowing she brought out all of the highs and lows of this much loved music and made it sound fresh and lively in the slightly higher register of the viola. Her intonation was spot on and she set the right pace rhythmically from the beginning.

Then it was Canolle's turn to go solo and she played two preludes for solo piano by Debussy: La Cathedrale Engloutie and Les Collines d'Anacapri. She began with a cluster of dark bass chords which gradually segued into rippling treble lines. The second prelude was more of a light dancing composition in which Olivia attacked the keyboard energetically. Her skill and sensitivity when playing difficult music was similar to her colleague and it was easy to see why the work together so sucessfully.

They came together again for the final selection, the Brahms' sonata in F Minor. The first movement offers swirling piano and low register viola and the second,  the Adagio is slow with a yearning quality. The finale is brisk and bright and the two musicians brought out all of the various qualities to the music skillfully."

Children's concerts - September 2015

"Mary Ann and I attended the "Baby Concert" with one of our grand daughters - Isabella aged two. It was a lovely relaxed and informal occasion with the beautiful music of Brahms and Mozart and concluded with some audience participation in nursery rhymes. We thank and congratulate the Palmer Ensemble on this initiative....we strongly commend grandparents, mums and their children to attend."
